Drums Of The Pacific Luau Features
Evening Entertainment
Your evening begins with Hawaiian music and audience participation featuring hula lessons, poi ball lessons, coconut tree climbing, coconut husking and finally, the imu ceremony, the unveiling of the main dish - Kalua Pua'a. Then enjoy friendly greetings by Royal Polynesians followed by a Polynesian fashion show featuring the island's most exotic pareaus (sarongs) in creative styles.
Imu (Underground Oven)
The Imu is one of the simplest and most ancient cooking structures in the world. Kālua, which means “to cook in an underground oven”, is a traditional Hawaiian cooking method that utilizes an imu. The word kālua may also be used to describe the food cooked in this manner, such as kālua pig or kālua turkey. In modern times, the imu has become an essential element of the demonstration and entertainment aspect of Hawaii's visitor industry-hosted luaus.
Samoan Fire Knife Dance
The Samoan Fire Knife Dance is a traditional war dance that originated in the South Pacific Island of Samoa. The knife used in its performance is a traditional implementation of the ceremonial dances that came into prominence between 900 and 1200 AD, according to most Polynesian historians. The Samoan Fire Knife Dance is a stunning spectacle that many visitors anticipate when they attend luaus. However, this tradition holds so much more than meets the eye. It is steeped in centuries of culture and replete with rich legendry as well as individual touches from each performer who performs it.
